MICHAEL SHANNON - ADDISON - Word was received here of the death of Michael Shannon of Penn Yan, son of Mrs. Mary Shannon and a brother of Mrs. Elmer C. Bovee, of Addison. Mr. Shannon's death occurred Tuesday at 3 pm at a hospital in Penn Yan, where he underwent an emergency operation for an intestinal obstruction, December 28.  He was stricken ill at his home in Penn Yan, Christmas Day.  

Mr. Shannon, for many years a resident of Addison, was born in Coopers Plains 54 years ago, a son of the late Eugene Shannon and Mary (Hallinan) Shannon. He was educated in the Coopers Plains and Painted Post schools and when a young man moved with his family to Addison, where he resided the major part of his life.

He had been an electrician and later an automobile salesman. For the past several years' he has resided in Penn Yan where he was employed by the Jolly Chevrolet Garage and Filling Station.

Possessing a genial disposition Mr. Shannon had legions of loyal friends. He was a sportsman, Interested in golf, bowling, and athletics in general, in which  games he has gained great skill himself.  

He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Penn Yan. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Elks and Moose Lodges.

Besides his widow, formerly Miss Margurite O'Connor of Penn Yan, he is survived by his mother and sister Mrs. Shannon and Mrs. Bovie of Addison; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Shannon Norton of Chicago, Illinois; four nephews, Charles, Shannon, Eugene, and Elmer Bovie Jr. of Addison; and the following cousins:  Michael Hallinan, Andrew Hallinan of Addison; Mrs. Anna Brown of Addison Hill; Mrs. Rush Gee of Elmira and Mrs. Anna Mullen, of Riverside, California.

The funeral will be held Friday morning at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Penn Yan and interment will be made in the Penn Yan Catholic Cemetery.
