A. **   The funeral of Charles Goff, who was drowned in thelake while skating last week and whose body was recovered late Friday afternoonlast, was held from the undertaking rooms of B. F Look, Sunday afternoon, Rev.K . F . Richardson officiating. Interment in the Bitley cemeteryIn the sad and tragic deathof the young man, occurring as it did among strangers, and whose relatives werefar removed from this locality, and were unable in a pecuniary way to providefor the last sad rites of their son and brother, the town gave a response thatmade those who witnessed it think the world was growing better instead of worse.

B.** The Telegram - Feb 17, 1907Many Homes in That Region Saddened By Death of Some Loved Member - Penn Yan, NY   Feb16. -

A motion will be made to have the Yates county treasury assume the expense of the burial of the young man, known as Charles Foster, who was drowned while skating on Lake Keuka last week and whose funeral was conducted at the expense of a number of charitable citizens of Branchport. It now transpires that the name of the young man was really Charles Goff.  His mother and three sisters live in RI, but they wrote that they were too poor to take charge of the remains, or to come to the funeral.

C.** 7/12/1978 Webster Herald News Item - Travelers' checks were invented by Robert Herries to take the place of letters of credit. The original checks could only be used on a pre-planned route where they were expected.
