Traversee, Reuben

July 19, 1865

Late a sergeant of Co. "D" 142nd NY Vols. in service of the United States Who was discharged at Ira Harris US General Hospital, Albany NY July 1, 1865 claims an invalid pension by reason of an alleged disability resulting from a gunshot wound of the right arm . Wound was caused by a musket ball which entered the right arm on its exterior surface 3 or 4 inches above the elbow joint passing through and fracturing the humerus causing great destruction of tissue. There is _____ adherent cicatrices and permanent contraction of the flexor muscles of the forearm. He also received a wound made by a musket ball which entered the right side of over (sic) the eighth rib near its center and coming out near the spine. The effects of this wound are neuralogic pains of the side.

The disability arising from the above causes is 2/3 of a total disability. Fee $1.50 paid. Certificate made and forwarded. Examination not ordered.

Tromblee, Alexander

A private of Capt. Marvin Potter's Co. "F" 142nd NYS Vols. discharged Oct. 1, 1864 claims an invalid pension by reason of an alleged disability resulting from a neurologic affliction if the left side. Disability is total. Fee $1.50 paid. Certificate sent.

Valley, Peter

A private of Capt. Hancock T. McLean's Co. "M" of the 6th Regt. US Cavalry who was discharged at Harper's Ferry on the 25th day of August 1864 . Said Valley claims an invalid pension by reason of an alleged disability caused by a gunshot wound caused by a ball shot from a carbine. The ball entering the upper portion of the ulna of the left arm near the elbow joint passing through and causing a comminuted(?) fracture (of) the same. The function of the joint is permanently impaired- he is incapable of fully extending his arm beyond an angle of 45 degrees. The disability amounts in my opinion to � of total disability. Fee for examination $1.50. Paid. Certificate sent.

Vanyea, John

August 9, 1865

Late a private of H.H. Bosworth�s Co. "D" 142nd Regt. NY Vols. in service of the US who was discharged on June 7, 1865 at Raleigh NC is an applicant for an invalid pension by reason of a gunshot wound. Wound was caused by a musket ball which struck him just anterior to the base of the right ear, passing through it and entering and destroying the mastoid process of the cranium, also destroying the connection of the sterno-mastoid muscle resulting in weakness and lameness of the shoulder and arm.

Ward, Luman F.

Ft.Covington. March 7, 1865. Semi-annual examination

Late a sergeant in Co."D" Capt. Doty 98th Regt, NY Vols. whose name is on the pension list roll of the Albany agency at the rate of 6 dollars per month to c________ the Sept.2, 1863 semi-annual. Disability continues. He complains of pain in both hip joints. Both legs are partially paralyzed, the left one so much as to be useless for the purpose of locomotion.

Disability paralysis of limbs caused by typhoid fever. Disability continues and is total, but � on pension certificate. Cannot sustain his weight on left leg and disability is increasing. Certificate made and sent.

Ward, Oscar

July 24, 1865

A private of Co. "D" 142nd NY Vols. who was discharged at New York City on July 11, 1865 claims an invalid pension by reason of a gunshot wound of the left hand. Wound was caused by a musket ball which entered the left hand near the center of the palm passing though and fracturing the metacarpal bones of the second and third fingers completely disabling the second and third fingers.

Disability 2/3 Permanent. Fee $1.50 paid. Certificate made and forwarded. Exam not ordered.

Washburn, George

A private of Capt. P.S. Sinclair's Co. "E" 60th Regt. NYS Vols. who was discharged at Chestnut Hill Hospital Philadelphia PA on the 19th day of July 1864 claims an invalid pension by reason of an alleged disability resulting from a gunshot wound of the right shoulder and arm. The wound was caused by a musketball which entered the right arm directly in front of the shoulder joint passing down the arm and lodging near the elbow joint causing severe inflammation and ultimately resulting in partial paralysis and decided atrophy of the arm. His disability is total. Fee $1.50 paid. Certificate sent.

Wells, Edward

July 28, 1866

Late a private in Co. (blank) 143rd 2nd Battalion, Veterans Reserve Corps, who was discharged at Baltimore MD on August 5, 1865 is an applicant for an invalid pension by reason of a hernia situated over the region of the stomach. Probably consists of omentum protruded through a small opening in the fascia of the abdomen. It is reducible, but readily brought out by straining.

Disability �. and permanent. Fee $1.50 paid. Certificate made and sent. Exam not ordered.

Wells, Hiram K.

A private of Capt. Philip C.Chase's Co. "G" 2nd Regt. Vermont Vols. who was discharged at Brattleboro VT on 29th of June 1864 claims an invalid pension by reason of a gunshot wound of the left hand caused by a musket ball which entered the hand just above its lower end of the third metacarpal bone shivening(?) the same and making it necessary to remove it. Also causing inflammation of the whole hand and a permanent contraction of the flexors of all the fingers of that hand and thereby destroying the use of the hand. Wound received May 5, 1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness. Certificate sent. Fee paid. Disability total.

Hiram K. Wells was re-examined Dec.18,1865. Certificate made and sent.

H.K. Wells also received a wound of the right leg caused by a musket ball which entered the leg 6 inches above the knee joint wounding the tendons of the rectus muscle. There's a deep and adherent cicotrix. The leg is greatly weakened.

I stated in my certificate for an increase that the hand whose functions were much impaired from the first had become nearly useless. Certificate made and sent. Nov. 28,1866

Re-examined. A private in Co. G, 106th NY Vols. Disability total continues. Abdominal dropsy.

Whitehouse, Thomas S.

April 14, 1866

Late (blank) in the service of the US who was discharged (blank) claims an invalid pension by reason of alleged disability resulting from a gunshot wound . Wound was caused by a musket ball which struck in the back and a little to the left of the spine and lodged under the left shoulder blade injuring the intercostal nerve causing lameness and pain of the left side.

Wilber, Wallace

Moira. March 21, 1865

A private of Ist Lt. John Stephany's Co."D" 41st Regt. NY Vols. who was discharged at DeCamp General Hospital on November 14, 1864 claims invalid pension by reason of alleged disability resulting from necrosis of both tibiae. The right leg is permanently flexed at a right angle to the thigh. The left is also flexed but not to so great an extent. The left knee is greatly distorted. There is a profuse discharge from an ulcer situated just below the left knee. He is (unable?) to stand upon his legs. Disability permanent and total. Fee 12 paid. Certificate sent.

Williams, Charles

March 20, 1866

Late a private in Co. C or K, 1st Regt. VT Cav. who was (discharged) at Burlington VT is an applicant for an invalid pension by reason of a gunshot wound of the right hip. A musket ball entered the right hip joint behind the great trochanter of the femur. Long continued walking or standing on the wounded limb causes pain.
