Armstrong, John

September 6, 1866

Late a private in Co. C, 106th Regt. NY Vols. a pensioner by reason of disability resulting from a gunshot wound of the left wrist joint. Wound was caused by a musket ball which passed through the left wrist joint completely anchylosing the joint.

Certificate made and sent.

Asher, Henry

(between July 24 and August 9) 1865

Late a private of Capt. Hardy�s Co. "K" 6th NH Vol. Infantry who was discharged at Alexandria VA on July 7, 1865 claims an invalid pension by reason of an alleged disability resulting from a gunshot wound of the left leg. Said wound was caused by a musket ball which entered the leg just above the inner condyle of the tibia fracturing the bone causing great destruction of tissue causing anchylosis of the ankle joint.

Disability total. Certificate to be made when ordered. Fee to be charged to the Government.

Atwood, Gustavus

June 18, 1866

Late a private of Co. H, 142nd Regt. NY Vols. who was discharged at New York harbor on April 19, 1865, is an applicant for an invalid pension by reason of disability (caused by?) a gunshot wound. Applicant received two wounds, one of the face caused by a musket ball which entered just below the left angle of the mouth passing downwards, fracturing the lower jaw. There is a deep and adherent cicatrix, causing considerable deformity. The other wound was caused by a musket ball which entered and passed through the left leg near the junction of the middle and lower thirds causing necrosis of the fibula. Disability �.. Fee charged to Govt. Certificate made and sent-No. 104622. Exam. ordered.

Aubrey, Peter

January 3, 1866

Late a corporal in Co. G, 2nd Regt. Mass. H. Art. who was discharged from the service of the U. States at Beaufort NC on June 8, 1865 is an applicant for an invalid pension by reason of an alleged disability resulting from an injury of the right arm and hand caused by a blow from a gun struck by a rebel while the said Peter Aubrey was attempting to make his escape from prison at Florence SC. The said blow produced a fracture of the metacarpal bone of the index finger and caused an inflammation of the hand. There is contraction of the extensor muscles of the injured hand which prevents the complete closure of the hand. Disability permanent and � of a total disability. Certificate made and sent. Fee $1.50. Exam. not ordered.

Austin, Leavitt B.

July 18, 1865

Late a sergeant of Capt. Eugene Willis� Co. H 106th Regt. NY Vols. in the service of the United States who was discharged at Ladies Home General Hospital New York on May 16, 1865 claims an invalid pension by reason of an alleged disability resulting from a gunshot wound of the left leg. Wound was caused by a musket ball which entered the left leg two inches below the knee joint on the anterior surface passing through the leg and (shattering?) the tibia causing extensive destruction of tissue. There is at the present time a constant discharge from the wound , the result of necrosis of the tibia. There is also great deformity by a bending of the tibia at the point of fracture. There is lameness and weakness of the leg (which) requires the assistance of a cane in walking.

Disability total Fee $1.50 paid. Certificate. Exam. not ordered.

Barnes, Sylvester June 24, 1865

A private of Co. G 92nd NY Vols. In the service of the United States who was discharged at Elmira NY on November 9, 1864 is an applicant for invalid pension by reason of an alleged disability resulting from a gunshot wound of the left leg. Said wound was caused by a musket ball which entered the leg on its inner side at the middle third passing through the leg causing inflammation, ulceration and extensive destruction of tissue. The wound is still in a state of ulceration . There is a permanent contraction of the extensor muscles of the foot preventing (him) from bringing his heel to the floor while walking or when being in the standing posture. There is also inflammation and swelling of the ankle. Disability is permanent and total. Fee $1.50 paid. Certificate made and sent.. Exam not ordered. July 23, 1865 made a copy of the above.

Bemis, Jonathan

Heart disease- probably organic but not absolutely certain. Symptoms: pain in region of heart increased by active exercise. Fee paid. Certificate sent. Total disability

Bennett, Emrick

June 23, 1866

Late a corporal in Co. G, 142nd Regt. NY Vols. who was discharged at New Berne NC on the (blank) day of June, 1865 is an applicant for an invalid pension by reason of physical disability resulting from a gunshot wound of the right hand. Index finger of the right hand was severed by a musket ball at the second joint.

Berry, William

July 14, 1866

Late a corporal in Co. F, 142nd Regt. NY Vols. who was discharged from the service of the US on June 7, 1865 is an applicant for an invalid pension by reason of a gunshot wound. Wound was caused by a musket ball which passed through the right arm about 2 � inches below the elbow joint. There is permanent contraction of the extensor muscles preventing complete closure of the hand. Arm is weakened.

Disability �. Fee $1.50 paid. Certificate made and sent on the 18th . Exam not ordered.

Bloomer, John

June 5, 1866

Late a private of Co. A, 98th Regt. NY Vols. who was discharged from service of the US at Ft.Monroe, VA on June 16, 1865 is an applicant for an invalid pension by reason of an alleged disability resulting from chronic rheumatism.There is enlargement of both ankles and knees and also of his right hand and shoulder. He is unable to perform manual labor.
