In an abandoned cemetery on the south shore of Staten Island, N. Y, near Great Kills, are the following inscriptions:
In memory of Susan, wife of Samuel Barton, who departed this life 18 Feb. 1810, aged 26 years, 3 months and 7 days.
Elizabeth, wife of John Wood, died 25th of August, 1797, aged 32 years and 2 months.
Sacred to the memory of Joseph B. Holmes who died March 28, 1825, aged 28 years and 12 days.
In memory of John Merceau who departed this life, August 8, 1799, aged 25 year’s, and 5 months.
Lewis Andrew Ovett, Jr., born August 6, 1777, died April 1, 1811.
